Children Enjoy Carnival Games, Rides, Cotton Candy, Music, Face Painting and a Visit from Santa Claus
Prominent attorney, Willie E. Gary, and the Gary Foundation hosted the 14th Annual Kids Carnival at Memorial Park in Stuart, Florida. Hundreds of children from five counties were invited to attend the event to receive toys and enjoy food, Christmas music, carnival rides and a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The law firm of Gary, Williams, Parenti, Watson and Gary, P.L.L.C. along with AXA Advisors, Inc., Parks and Crump, LLC., Franks, Koenig & Neuwelt, Waters Edge Recovery, Advantage Ford of Stuart, Gary Financial Group and Jeffrey and LaVern Clemmons, graciously sponsored the purchase of over 1000 toys. Many local businesses made financial and in-kind contributions in support of this worthwhile event. Sponsors for the carnival included: The Law Offices of Jean Laws-Scott and Phyllis Gillespie, Michael Haygood, Esq., Stevi B’s Pizza, Bagel Break and New York Life.
Over 20 youth organizations from Martin, Indian River, Okeechobee, St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties were invited to bring young people to the carnival to pick out a gift of his or her choice and enjoy the festivities. The Kids Carnival is a highly anticipated event on the Treasure Coast. Since its inception over a decade ago, the Gary Foundation Kids Carnival has been providing toys to disadvantaged youth who otherwise may not receive any presents for Christmas. Attendees enjoyed sno-cones, pizza, hot dogs, popcorn, cotton candy, a bounce house and obstacle course, slides, a rock climbing wall, a video game truck, as well as numerous competitive rounds of musical chairs.
“This is by far my favorite event of the year,” said Gary. “Christmas is about giving to others and making sure that children, who are less fortunate, can also enjoy the excitement of receiving toys.
Given the current economic climate, we have found that there are more children in need than ever before. Kids being kids – that’s what the carnival is all about,” continued Gary. “Our job is to make sure they have fun, and don’t have any worries for the day.”

On December 15, 2014 Stuart Attorney Donald Watson received the Florida Police Athletic-Activities League Volunteer of the Year Award for his work with the Fort Pierce PAL.
Attorney Watson, a partner with The Law Offices of Gary, Williams, Parenti & Watson, and several members of his family attended the awards luncheon held at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort Conference Center in Lake Buena Vista, FL. In addition to the award, a photo and story of his achievements will be featured in the SFAPAL Illustrated Magazine.
Ten years ago, Attorney Watson became involved with the Fort Pierce PAL after auditioning for a part in a play. Since then, he has contributed countless hours, raised thousands of dollars, and completed a seventh term as vice president of the Board of Directors.
While serving alongside of PAL youth leaders and witnessing first-hand their diligence, Attorney Watson developed the idea to host a PAL Youth Appreciation Luncheon. The first one took place in early 2013 and was sponsored by him. By recognizing the youth for their efforts, Attorney Watson hopes it will encourage them to continue to serve and do well.
“Giving back to my community,” is phrase often used to express a desired goal, but for Attorney Watson it has become a way of life. He continues to further PAL’s goal of “Filling Playgrounds not Prisons”, through his involvement in other charitable events, though they were not directly under the auspices of PAL. Among the many things, he served as a FCAT tutor in 2012 at Resurrection Family Life Worship Center in Fort Pierce; volunteer for Building Bridges in Stuart; master of ceremonies of the Arnold Stanberry Community Achievers’’ Award program highlighting achievements of historical figures and community servants in Martin County and a motivational speaker for pre-school and school-aged students.

Various volunteers from Martin County make this event happen each and every Holiday season. “Last month the GWCCC served over 1,500 plates of food for the annual Thanksgiving Dinner, said Themla Washington, Executive Director of the Gertrude Walden Child Care Center. I imagined the need would be greater for our holiday feast this year.”
The GWCCC helps to serve over a thousand plates of food each holiday season, and with the 500-700 anticipated guests the center needs all the help they can get each year. The dedication they have to their students, children and families of their community is outstanding.
